Physician preference items (PPI) can account for as much as 60% of a hospital’s supply spend. In fact, most hospitals overpay approximately 12% for PPIs. Due to the specialized nature of these products, many PPI categories haven’t experienced the same commoditization as other medical/surgical categories and therefore require an innovative approach.
